Call to Action for Sustainable Maritime Fuel Production

Updated: Jul 3

Jun 21, 2023

· Today, we've joined other fuel producers and Environmental Defense Fund in calling for full decarbonization of the shipping industry by 2050.

Maritime shipping is responsible for 3% of global greenhouse emissions. For the shipping industry to play its role in limiting global warming to 1.5°C, it's critical to rapidly reduce emissions within this decade and reach zero by 2050. IMO member states must develop policies that incentivize sustainable shipping fuels and put the industry on track to cut its emissions. https://lnkd.in/dvZqZs6E

· Fuel producers are committed to the energy transition, but we need the correct measures in place to facilitate sustainable fuel production. This is why — alongside other fuel producers and Environmental Defense Fund — we’re supporting ambitious shipping decarbonization ahead of International Maritime Organization (IMO) negotiations this summer to help maintain global temperatures at 1.5°C in alignment with the Paris Agreement.
